AI-powered risk intelligence for transport infrastructure
Helping Australian councils and road authorities prioritise inspections, justify spend, and make better decisions about culverts, bridges, and roads.

Predict. Prioritise. Defend.
Predict
DrainRisk uses machine learning to predict which transport assets are most likely to fail, based on data your council already holds and publicly available datasets.
Prioritise
Our risk scores help you focus inspections, maintenance, and budget where they have the most impact.
Defend
Every score is explainable, transparent, and backed by validated methodology. Designed for procurement, audit, and reporting.
DrainRisk: How it works
-
Asset Register
Pipe geometry, diameter, material, construction type. Data your council already holds.
-
Public Data Layers
BoM rainfall intensity, GA terrain elevation, land use imperviousness, road classification.
-
Hydraulic Analysis
Catchment area, hydraulic capacity ratio, and height above nearest drainage computed per asset.
-
Two-Stage AI Scoring
Exposure model: is this location flood-prone? Adequacy model: can the pipe handle the flow? Both answered independently.
-
Ranked Output
HIGH / MEDIUM / LOW risk tier, exposure and adequacy scores, and a confidence score on every asset.
0.89 cross-validated accuracy (AUC) for DrainRisk's exposure model, verified across five independent testing folds on 5,435 real infrastructure assets.
DrainRisk identifies assets whose hydraulic and catchment characteristics are similar to those observed within the 2022 Brisbane and Ipswich flood extents. Scores represent hydraulic risk ranking, not confirmed failure prediction. Hydraulic adequacy is assessed against the engineering standard of design storm capacity, whether the culvert can handle the 10% AEP design flow.
About PhoenixIAM
PhoenixIAM is a Queensland-based infrastructure intelligence firm. Founded by a practising civil engineer with hands-on experience inside Queensland local councils, we build data-driven tools that help councils and road authorities make better, more defensible decisions about their transport assets. Based in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, available Australia-wide.
